Little Troy Park has been keeping people cool for over 60 years!
LTP is a members-only swimming hole nestled on a quiet road in rural Charlton, NY. We offer a large, natural pond for swimming, a sandy beach, a shaded playground and picnic area, and a lovely community of members. There are swim lessons for children, safe wading for toddlers, and a lap swim area for all to enjoy. The pond is nearly an acre in size, large enough for everyone to have room to cool off. Our dedicated lifeguards are on duty to keep everyone safe every day.
First opened in 1957, the Park is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day each summer. It is a Charlton institution!
The clean Alplauskill and fresh underground springs feed the pond. Local wildlife often stop by and visit! Members fondly remember the summer a Great Egret was spotted, the baby turtles kids have seen, and Daisy the rescued duck who made the park its home in the early 1990s.
The park is roughly 20 acres. The name can be confusing - we are not located in Troy, NY! The Park is named for a small, historic hamlet within Charlton - Slab Troy, which dates to the early 1800s.
We are a 100% volunteer-run organization. We aim to have a healthy, rotating board in order to share the work of keeping this community gem running. Meet our board, learn what we do, talk to us at the beach, and consider volunteering.
Beth Costine-Bartell discovered LTP through her sister-in-law. Her husband and sister-in-law grew up in the neighborhood next to LTP and learned to swim here. One of Beth's life goals has been to rearrange her work schedule so she could spend more time with her kids in the summer. Now, Beth and her daughter enjoy afternoons at LTP all summer! Beth has a lab in Boston and loves Excel spreadsheets.
Kate Pierce has kept LTP running with her dad, Larry, for the last several years. She grew up learning to swim at LTP. The board's aim is to understand all that Kate does for LTP.
Carolyn Trojan grew up swimming at LTP, brought her kids to LTP, and now brings her grandchildren. She manages our finances, along with a million other tasks.
Leanne Politi uses her professional skills for the park in all things public relations and advertising.
Justin Boyd leads maintenance. All members of the board are always doing some type of maintenance. Maintenance is year-round, and we are always open to volunteers. If your child needs a Boy Scout project or volunteer hours for high school requirements, we have projects ready to go!
Jess Goyette manages our memberships. Jess is the mom of three boys who enjoys being outside in the summer and live music! The park relies on memberships, and we appreciate early memberships in March or April, so we can plan the summer with confidence.
Rachel Bowcutt assists Kate with the million things Kate does.
Cole Franciola serves as our secretary.
Megan McClearn organizes the special events for members at LTP.
